Slaughtered to Win!
In Revelation 5 we find the Lamb being praised through these words:
“You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation …” (Revelation 5:9, NLT)
He is worthy because He was slaughtered!
That’s not something you usually hear. We use the term for someone who lost badly, not for someone who is the ultimate winner.
And if your literally slaughtered, as Jesus was, that means you’re dead. We would rather not go there although we all will sooner or later unless Jesus comes first.
But, notice what Jesus accomplished with His death. He …
“ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation …” (Revelation 5:9, NLT)
This is the heart of the Gospel. Jesus won by living a perfect life and then voluntarily dying to carry your and my sins into oblivion so we could be saved.
Satan demanded that God apply death to everyone who had sinned, just as the law required. Jesus beat Him by taking our sins on Himself wining the right to extend forgiveness and cleansing to anyone who would accept it.
This is a big deal.
This is why Jesus was worthy to take the scroll and break its seals.
This is why Jesus is worthy of praise from all of us!
This is why you can trust Jesus with your life!
