… Until Heaven!

Jesus made this promise to His disciples just as they were beginning their last meal together before His arrest and death:

“I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” (Luke 22:15-16, NLT)

He promised the next time He ate this meal they would be with Him in Heaven.

Just like the Passover had been an ongoing reminder of a coming Redeemer, the Lord’s Supper was to be an ongoing reminder of God’s final victory over sin and of our place in Heaven.

He wanted His disciples – and us – to know that just as He came and purchased our forgiveness and salvation, there will come a time when sin will go down in defeat forever.

He wants us to remember the end of the story – Revelation 21:1-4 really will take place!

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared … “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:1-4, NLT)

Jesus wants us to be reminded of this every time we celebrate Communion!
